Brewing news Czech Republic: Plzensky Prazdroj to raise prices for 2 beers

Plzensky Prazdroj from Czech Republic stated on January 17 that it would increase pub prices for its Velkopopovicky Kozel and Gambrinus brands by 1.2 Czech koruna/ 1 litre.

Alexej Bechtin, the company’s spokesman announced that the increase in price was partly due to "overall rising costs of raw materials and utilities" and to a marketing effort to differentiate the Gambrinus brand. A spokesman of other Czech brewer, Budejovicky Budvar, said that increasing energy costs were forcing beermakers to hike prices.

With an annual consumption rate of 160 litres per person, Czechs are the biggest per-capita beer drinkers in the world.
